Habitat for Humanity

Flatirons Community Church is committed to the long-term transformation of our local community, helping those who are hurting, living in poverty and who need to know that God loves them and really does care.  We partner with two local Habitat for Humanity affiliates, Flatirons and St. Vrain to help build affordable housing for people working their way out of poverty.

"Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God’s love and can live and grow into all that God intends."

No experience is necessary to build with Habitat and there are many opportunities to volunteer:

  • Volunteer for a day to build, even if you have no building skills
  • Serve as a team leader for a build day
  • Become a crew leader by getting a little on-the-job training
  • Become a coach/mentor for Habitat families through the Keys program
  • Donate goods and services needed in building a house
  • Provide lunch to those serving at the construction site
  • Join the Thursday "regulars" team if you can serve during the week

Keys Community - Becoming a coach

A 3-part program that partners low-income individuals and families with volunteers from the community.

Part 1: Blueprints, a 16 week course in which low-income families evaluate all areas of their life in terms of stability and develop skills to set SMART goals in areas of their lives that are less stable in order to achieve economic self-sufficiency. Participants are not required to be affiliated with HFHSVV to participate; Blueprints is open to the public.

Part 2: Keys to Volunteering, an educational workshop for community members interested in learning about root causes of poverty, local instability and how to foster an understanding between volunteers and families from different economic backgrounds. These free workshops are open to the public and average 20-50 participants.

Part 3: Coaching Team Formation- Each graduate of Blueprints is paired with 3-5 volunteer coaches who mentor and support the graduate as they implement plans for stability. The coaching teams meet for 12 months in a structured relationship and upon completion graduates are encouraged to become coaches, empowering them to continue their personal growth.

The next training to learn about becoming a Keys coach will be held on:
Part 1: February 19th at 6:00 p.m.
Part 2: March 13th and 20th at 6:30p.m.
