This is the time of year when everybody is on the move. Some of us are trying to move up. Some of us are trying to move forward. In traffic and crowded malls, we wish people would simply move out of the way. The Bible describes God as a God who is constantly moving. Not changing. Just moving. Moving down. Moving things around. Moving up. The greatest example of this...Christmas!

Over the past months, we have been taking a look at the very first message that Jesus ever gave about what faith looks like. Now, as we move into the closing words, the question is...do you get it? In this series, we'll try to find out what it means to "get it" and if you got it...that's a good thing.

Jesus never told anyone to go and build buildings. He told us to go and build up people. He told us to love God and love people. He never told us to fix people, change people or save anyone. He told us to create environments and opportunities for people that we care about to "bump into" Jesus...and then, Jesus could do what only Jesus can do. Over the past years at flatirons, people who believed that this was true made sure that each one of us had a place where we could come and "bump into Jesus". Now, it's our turn. We're calling it BRiX-Building Relationships in Christ...because that's what it's always been about.

Big Buts of the Bible
From the first time Jesus opened his mouth and began to teach about what it looked like to live connected to God, he amazed everyone who heard by using one word: BUT. Noone had ever heard anybody say the things he said. The crazy thing about it was that he didn't change anything about what God had already said, BUT he applied it differently. In this series, we are going to explore a few of those "but" teachings that kicked the religious world in the seat of its pants--and might flip our world upside down as well. So, whether we're "unpacking junk from our trunk" or "turning the other cheek"--one big BUT can change everything.

MVP Series Graphic
Hear no evil. See no evil. Speak no evil. These 3 Monkeys symbolize the idea that if you don't look at or listen to bad stuff, then you won't say or do bad stuff. It's kind of an ancient "garbage in, garbage out" teaching...just avoid the bad and that equals good. Simple enough, right? In this series we are going to learn that Jesus taught something far more challenging and extraordinary than just avoiding bad stuff.

MVP Series Graphic
It's summertime and that means BASEBALL! Peanuts! Cracker Jack! Home Runs! Remember...ROCKTOBER? Go ROCKIES!!! But whether you're a fan or not, whatever your game, everybody likes to win. Lots of times in the Bible, Jesus would compare things that people were familiar with to deeper, spiritual questions. That's what we want to do in this series. In baseball, it's easy to know who's winning. Look at the scoreboard and see who has scored the most runs. But, what about life? How do you know if you're winning in life? That's what we're going to try to answer in this series. Welcome to the game!

Stealing Jesus
Most people like Him...or at least the idea of Him. Some would say He was a loving and kind man or a good teacher. Others would say he was some kind of prophet. Millions say He is God. But who exactly are we talking about? Are we talking about the gothic one we see in art? The one we see depicted in the movies or popular televions shows? The friendly on we find in the pages of kids' Bibles? The one they talk about on that religious channel? It seems that everyone has their very own customized version of Him. Everyone claims rights to Him. But who is the real Jesus? What would happen if we let go of all the different "jesuses" that have been molded and create by people and really met...Him?

Explicit Lyrics
The Best Love Song...ever! What is the hottest, most graphic, most explicit, most passionate, erotic song you've ever heard about romance, love and sex? Whatever it is, it is about to be replaced by a tune called the Song of Solomon. Mainstream culture has hijacked the definition of love and romance...and it's not working out that great. We want to go back to the Song that God wrote. We want to listen to the lyrics that God uses to describe passion. From puberty to funeral home, few areas of our lives have more potential to lift us higher or bring us lower than love, romance and passion. So, let's listen to the best love song of all time.

Every commercial these days is pushing High-Definition products. New products are all claiming to be Hi-Def. Televisions, video... even radios are Hi-Def. If you are still watching or listening to anything less than Hi-Def, you are living with old technology. In the Bible, Jesus compared physical things to spiritual things. What if some of us are living our lives with old technology? Is it possible that too many of us are still viewing our lives through Old-Def...old definitions? And... is it possible that God is making available new definitions... Higher-Definitions? Is it possible to live life in Hi-Def?

Lift Ticket
Every day we all have choices and decisions facing us. Should I do this or that? Should I go here or there? Turn right or left? Should I quit or hang in there? Should I stay or should I go? And somewhere along the way, we throw up a prayer, "Hey, God, what am I supposed to do?" That's the million-dollar question we all want answered. So, how do we find the answer? In this series, we are going to compare something that we know a little something about...skiing...to something that many of us want to know more about...how do I know what I'm supposed to do? What's the answer? And...is that the right question?

Pirates
Where are you sailing? How will you know when you get there? Is this really where you want to end up? The purpose of this series is not to make anyone feel GUILTY for what they have...that never helps anything. The purpose of this series is to view life through a different lens. To awaken GRATITUDE. Gratitude leads to GENEROSITY which leads to GOOD deeds...but, along the way, generosity can be ambushed, ripped off, "pirated" by GREED. Whether you end up in guilt, gratitude, greed or generosity, make no mistake, every treasure will be revealed for what it is and the difference it made.

Light
You know that feeling when you walk from darkness into light? When you turn on the bathroom light first thing in the morning, when you step from a dark movie theater into the sunshine? It takes a moment for your eyes to adjust. It's uncomfortable at first because light totally invades and overwhelms darkness. In reality there is no such thing as dark, only the absence of light. In the Bible, John describes Jesus as the light that shines in the darkness that cannot be overcome. Jesus described Himself as the light of the world. Could it be that the birth of Jesus was more than just a silent night, but an aggressive invasion of light and hope into a world suffering from the absence of light?

Playground
Remember the playground? Monkey bars, swings, tag, four square, picking teams, playing kickball? The playground was a place of freedom after being imprisoned in a classroom all day being told to sit still and be quiet. Remember running... oops, i mean, walking, single file, quietly from class to recess... only to find that there were "Playground Rules"? Rules? Why? Why, in a place designed for fun and freedom would there be rules, boundaries, teachers with whistles? What's the point? In this series we are going to explore some of God's most famous "rules" and ask the same questions. Is God really into rules? Or is there something else He's much more concerned about?

Behind Closed Doors logo
In a world that is constantly reaping the fallout of broken relationships, we have no shortage of places to turn for advice in regards to what we do behind closed doors. We can call late night talk shows. We can peruse the aisles of any check out stand in any grocery store for advice on how to spice up our sex lives. We can watch it on-line, order it On-Demand, and read about it at length. What we do behind closed doors is more out in the open than ever before. Yet the fallout from relationships gone wrong is not decreasing even with the incredible amount of advice we are getting from all sides. Could it be possible that we are asking the wrong questions to the wrong people? Could it be that the One who came up with the idea in the first place has a lot more to say about what we do behind closed doors than we think? Could it be that God actually knows how sex and relationships are meant to work if we would only ask?

XFC - God vs. Satan - Round 1
We are in the fight of our lives. It's everywhere. In you. Between you and me. Even, between us and God. The whole universe has been dragged into the war. This battle raises big questions that many people are afraid to bring up...not us.
We're going to jump in the ring and fight it out. We're going to wrestle and grapple with some of the meanest, toughest and hardest questions and subjects you'll ever face. Nervous? Good. You should be. This is as real as it gets. These are not safe questions. Some of us might get hurt. Some of us may tap out...quit. But, like it or not, every one of us...eventually...is going to find ourselves in the ring...face to face with our biggest questions and fears. It's Xtreme. It's a Fight. And it's winnable. Who cares. Who cares! Who cares? We've all said the phrase in different ways. It can be a statement or a question. It can reflect a lack of concern or a genuine concern. And what does God care about? What's He really looking for? What makes Him smile? What does He want us to care about? Who does He want us to care for? Could it be that the most important question that those who do not follow Jesus are asking of those who do is simply, “WHO CARES?”

Many of us would say that Flatirons Community Church is the most incredible church we've ever been a part of. Many of us would say we love Flatirons. Some of us would even say that Flatirons is the place where we met God for the first time. We'd even say that our lives have been drastically changed by something God did in us through something that happened at Flatirons. Flatirons is not a perfect church. Never will be. Flatirons is not the best church around. That's not our goal. Flatirons is simply a community of people who are doing their best to follow God in what he says is "a better way to do life". Are we there yet? Nope. We're still on the road. We have a long way to go. But, we do know where we're going and we know we want to go together with friends.
Over the next few weeks, we are going to be doing our annual, "map check". Are we on the right road? Are we following the right map? Are we headed in the right direction? Have we gotten off track? What are the most important things to remember on this journey...both as a community...and as individual travelers?

The desert is a place of extremes. It's incredibly hot during the day, freezing cold at night. Not much can grow or live in the desert, much less thrive. There is very little there that brings comfort, only pain. Very few places are as remote, cut off from life, disorienting, filled with confusion and panic as the desert. Sound familiar? Everyone goes through the desert, no exceptions. Have you ever felt like you were walking through a dry and weary land? Cut off, alone, thirsty and separated from God? So the question becomes what do we do when we find ourselves there? Is it possible to find shelter, to get relief? Could it be that God is actually there with us as we walk through the desert in our own lives?

Hurry up. We're late. What's next? Are you finished? Time's up. People are waiting. Sorry, I'm busy. Just a few more minutes. I'm tired. I'm bored. Work. School. Car pool. House work. Yard work. Time Out. Take a breath. Take a break. Time to regroup, rethink, reboot…REST. God's idea. Stop. Think. Remember. Dream. Reconsider. Repent. Recommit. Renew. Restart. What if the reason there is always too much to do...is that we are doing too much? Hmmm.

Catchy TV ads...obnoxious radio spots...an Inbox full of SPAM...all offering once in a life-time, too good to be true deals and gadgets. But you have to "buy now". Let's be honest. Deals that are "too good to be true"...usually aren't true.
So, today, you show up at church and hear that God loves everybody and all you have to do is have a little faith...come on! What's the catch? What's the angle? What's in the fine print? Is the deal available to people like you? What about me? Can I get in on it or am I disqualified? What about this? What about that? And you're saying that God's just going to forgive me? Grace? Whatever. How can God stay in business if He's handing out forgiveness for free? If that's really true, it would be...amazing. Hmmmm.

Global Warming Logo
We live in a world that seems to be moving more and more towards extremes. On one hand, it's getting "colder". We are more isolated, lonely, and segregated than ever. At the same time, tempers, politics and accusations are more "heated" than ever.
Jesus said that the way people would know that you were his follower wasn't by if you went to church or not. It wasn't by the songs you sing or the way you dress. It wasn't if you started doing good things and stopped doing bad things. Jesus said people would know that you were his follower by watching how you treat the people around you. Is it possible to ever live in a world that embraces Jesus' teaching of "love your neighbor"? What does that even mean? Who is my neighbor? Why should I care about my neighbor? How would I do it and where would I start? Would it make any difference? Is it possible to warm up a cold world?
