Family Food Pack

February 27 & 28

pack as a Family

On Saturday, February 27 and Sunday, February 28, serve together to pack high-nutrient, dry meals that will be distributed to communities experiencing food shortage in Afghanistan, through our partner Sozo International, and in South Sudan, through our partner Life in Abundance.

Sign up for an hour and a half slot with your family, group, neighbors, or by yourself!

So what's this going to look like?

You’ll register to serve at a specific campus for about an hour and a half. If you’d like to serve longer than that, please register for multiple timeslots. This will help us keep track of headcounts in our buildings. Before you pack, you’ll watch an instructional video together. Then, you’ll gear up with gloves and hairnets and get to packing, sealing and boxing meals in an assembly line.

Is there childcare?

This service opportunity is suitable for kids! There will not be childcare.

What COVID-19 precautions are being taken?

You will pack in groups no larger than 10 people. Please plan to wear your own mask the entire time. We’ll provide hand sanitizer, gloves and hairnets. Each station will be cleaned and restocked in between timeslots. Please cancel your registration should you become ill and do not enter the building if you’re feeling symptoms of illness.

How will the food get overseas and how long will it take to get there?

Flatirons has partnered with Lifeline Christian Mission on this project. Lifeline will oversee international shipping and has standing relationships with the partners who will receive and distribute the meals. The food may take several months to reach its destination, depending on international customs, weather, political environments, etc.

This sort of sounds like that whole Western Savior thing...

Our intention is to approach global missions in partnership with trusted organizations who maintain in-country leadership. We believe that God is using our international partners in culturally-relevant ways that empower communities with dignity and Jesus’ love. We see our role as offering the time, talent, and resources we’ve been gifted with to come alongside our international partners as they directly engage with their local communities. We are happy for our partners to be the ones who distribute this food and offer additional outreach in their areas of expertise.

Why rice and beans?

Rice and beans are staples in many diets around the world. Combined with the dry vitamins that are added to each pack, they make a quality, high-nutrient, filling hot meal.
