PARENT BIBLE STUDY

Read: Acts 28:1-10

Paul survived two weeks at sea in a storm. He survived a shipwreck. Next Paul faced death at the hands of the soldiers on the ship, who decided to kill the prisoners rather than risk them escaping. The soldiers’ leader ordered everyone overboard to either swim to the shore of Malta or float there on the wreckage.

The islanders were welcoming at first, but then they witnessed Paul get bitten by a poisonous snake. They thought he must’ve been a really be a terrible criminal because he was attacked again after just surviving a terrible shipwreck. They watched him, expecting him to swell up or suddenly fall dead. But when nothing happened they decided he was a god. Of course, Paul took the opportunity to tell the islanders about the one, true God. And so not only did Paul survive the shipwreck and the snakebite, he healed all the sick on the island and told the people the Good News of Jesus, just as he did throughout all of his journeys and writings recorded in the New Testament.

What an amazing course of events that brought the love of the one, true God to an obscure group of islanders.

What course of events led to you hearing the Good News of Jesus?

Who first told you about Jesus?

Looking back can you trace the story and see the way God worked in your life?

Can you look forward and see how God is using you to share the Good News with others?
