Theology on Tap

Theology On Tap is a men’s Bible discussion group held at various pubs and brew houses in the Denver/Boulder area. The next three-month series titled “Man Up” is scheduled to start in January 2012. It will run the third Tuesday of each month*.

The goal of Theology On Tap is to create a venue where guys from Flatirons (and their friends) can get together and talk about some of the big questions of life and faith over a finely crafted beer or two. We’ve got eight different pubs and brew houses (and one coffee shop) that have agreed to give us a little space for our guys to get together.

Time 7:00-9:00pm

March 20
(*The Theology On Tap in Longmont will meet the third Wednesday of each month)

A Torque Wrench, an Old Man and the Son of God

We've got another guest blog this week. This one comes from our good friend Kevin Vannorsdel. Kevin's our group leader for the Theology On Tap at the Rock Bottom in Westminster. Whether you're a "gear head" or not...you're going to love this. Enjoy.

Jesus Wept (Chuck Burgen 1933-2012)

Death is just part of life, right? I mean, all of us have experienced it in some form or fashion; whether we've lost a dearly loved family member or the family dog, cat or hamster. Either way, we know the pain and ache of loss. And I don't care what the circumstances might be. It always hurts.

Twenty-some years ago, my grandfather died after an excruciating battle with esophageal cancer. The last three months of his life were the worst. Radiation and chemotherapy had left him frail and emaciated—a skeletal shadow of the wirer-y muscled farmer he had once been. And as thankful as we all were when Grandpa Foote died (easing his pain and suffering), it was still a mournful day at his funeral. Our family laughed and reminisced about life with him throughout the calling hours and...we cried, equally as much, at the family cemetery where we buried him. [continue reading]

Fire on the Mountain - Men's Retreat 2011

"God is a consuming fire" (Hebrews 12:29); which means He is unquenchable, unpredictable, dangerous, and all-together captivating when we are confronted by Him.

Flatirons’s Men’s Retreat, Fire on the Mountain, was an amazing time away for all who made it. There were some very cool moments up at Crooked Creek this year. Everything including: great hikes in the mountains, a CrossFit competition in the gym and Paul Brunner getting the hair ripped off his chest in the auditorium.

And amidst all the fun and high jinks, there were some powerful sessions revolving around God—the All-Consuming Fire and how He refines each one of us into the men He’s called us to be. If you weren’t able to make it or if you just want to listen again, click on the links below to hear Scott Nickell’s Friday night teaching, Saturday’s session with Jason Martinkus or the Q&A Panel discussion from Sunday.
