May is National Foster Care Month

When the stats are this dark, the Church has to be the light.

EVERY STAT HAS A STORY
  • 3+ placements: Most foster kids move homes more than three times before age 18.

  • 4x suicide risk: Foster kids are four times more likely to attempt suicide.

  • 90% trafficked: 90% of trafficking victims have been in foster care.

  • 1 in 3 age out struggling with addiction.

  • <50% graduate high school by 18.

  • Only 1 in 5 foster youth enroll in college.

  • Half of foster parents quit within the first year.

We Can All Help

Every day in America, more than 390,000 kids wake up in foster care, many unsure where they’ll sleep next week—let alone who will care for them long-term. Most will move through multiple homes before they turn 18. Too many will fall through the cracks, never graduate high school, face addiction, or get pulled into trafficking. The truth? Many never get the chance to dream beyond just surviving.

Right here in Colorado, 14 kids enter foster care every single day. Nearly 3,000 are currently in the system, and across the U.S., nearly 20,000 teens age out of care each yearmost without family, support, or a safety net.

The foster care system is broken. The need is overwhelming. But it’s not hopeless.
We believe the Church can be the difference.

This isn’t just a call to become a foster parent (though maybe it is for you). It’s a call to step in, show up, and stand beside the kids, teens, and families already carrying this burden. Whether you mentor, provide a meal, cheer from the sidelines, or simply say “yes” to learning more, there’s a place for you in this story.

We can’t fix everything. But together, we can change someone’s everything.
You in?

Because we see you, we support you.

Flatirons fights for the forgotten, and we’ve committed to supporting three incredible organizations that work alongside children in foster care and those who care for them.

You don’t have to foster a child to support one.
Start by dropping off a meal, mowing a lawn, or running an errand—simple things that lift the load for foster, adoptive, and kinship families. That’s what Rise is all about.

When you join a Rise wrap-around team, you become part of a network of everyday people—drivers, babysitters, encouragers—who provide practical help and real connection to families and caseworkers across the Denver-metro area.
