Volunteer Orientation is the best place to learn what serving at Flatirons looks like. Whether you're exploring volunteering for the first time, have already registered for an orientation, or need answers before your orientation, this page will walk you through what to expect and your next steps.

How long is Volunteer Orientation?
Volunteer Orientation lasts approximately 30–40 minutes.
What ages does NextGen serve?
Our NextGen ministry serves babies through high school, with a variety of volunteer opportunities across every age group.
What can I expect at Volunteer Orientation?
Volunteer Orientation is a relaxed, 30–40 minute gathering where you'll learn about the vision of NextGen at Flatirons, hear about the different serving opportunities available, and learn what the next steps look like if you decide to join the team. You'll also have plenty of time to ask questions.
How do I know if serving is right for me?
If you're even a little curious about serving, Volunteer Orientation is a great first step. There's no obligation or commitment to begin serving simply by attending. Our goal is to help you learn more about NextGen, answer your questions, and help you discover where your gifts and interests could make the greatest impact.
Do I have to know where I want to serve before attending?
Not at all! Many people come to Orientation without knowing where they'd like to serve. We'll introduce you to the different age groups and volunteer opportunities, help you explore where your gifts, interests, and availability fit best, and guide you through the next steps when you're ready.
Can middle school and high school students serve?
Absolutely! We love having student volunteers—they bring energy, enthusiasm, and excitement to our NextGen ministry.
For middle school students, we ask that a parent attend Volunteer Orientation with them so both understand what serving in NextGen looks like and the commitment involved.
High school students are welcome to attend Volunteer Orientation and serve on their own without a parent or guardian.
Can my child attend Kids Ministry while I'm at Orientation?
Absolutely! You're welcome to check your children into multiple services while you attend Volunteer Orientation. Just let the Check-In Team know that your child will be staying for more than one service, and they'll be happy to assist you.
What if I can't attend the Orientation I registered for?
No problem! Simply register for another upcoming Volunteer Orientation that works better with your schedule.
What happens after Volunteer Orientation?
After Volunteer Orientation, your campus team will begin your onboarding process and help you take your next steps. You should hear from someone on your campus team within a few days to discuss serving opportunities, complete any remaining onboarding steps, and help you find the role that's the best fit for you.
