PARENT BIBLE STUDY

Read: Psalm 150

“Worship” is a word that is often limited to mean the musical portion of a weekend church service. But worship means so much more. No matter how great the music is; the instruments, the singing, the lyrics, our objective in this portion of the service isn’t to enjoy great praise songs. The purpose of worship in its greater sense is to get to know the God who made us and to show our love for him.

In this way we can begin to understand that worship is a movement of our hearts, our thoughts, and our will towards God’s heart, his thoughts and his will. Ultimately, worship is our response to what we value most. It’s about saying, “This person, this thing, this experience (this whatever) is what matters most to me … it’s the thing of highest value in my life.”

Louie Giglio writes, “So how do you know where and what you worship? It’s easy; you simply follow the trail of your time, your affection, your energy, your money, and your allegiance. At the end of that trail you’ll find a throne; and whatever, or whomever, is on that throne is what’s of highest value to you.”

We only need to look at our credit card statements, our calendars, our check books, our web history, our facebook account, to find what the highest value is for us on any given day. That’s worship.

But God is saying: Everything you are—is ME. Everything you have—is MINE. The life you live is MY life that I’ve freely given to you. And I want worshipers who will constantly reflect MY goodness and grace with that life!

How often do we miss what God has for us because we limit our worship to what takes place in the first 15 minutes of a weekend service? Could it be that you and I exist for more … to reflect back to God his matchless glory? That’s worship.

What is it in your life that matters most? What do you worship? Really? Take some time to reflect on this.

What needs to change so that your worship will reflect back to God his matchless glory?
