PARENT BIBLE STUDY

Read: Genesis 6-7

God’s heart was broken at the beginning of the story of Noah. That’s what the Bible says in Genesis 6:5-6: “The Lord saw that the people on the earth were very evil. He saw that they thought only about evil things all the time. The Lord was sorry that he had made people on the earth. It made him very sad in his heart.”

Understanding the emotion of God helps us understand God. When he sees the ruin of his beloved creation—people—something shifts. He made people in his own image, made us to be like himself. Then when people turned to evil we see a different side of God. We see in his decision to flood the earth that he is a God of righteousness and justice. He saw deliberate evil and only evil – evil that no longer reflected his image - and he could not stand by and do nothing. He was like a dad with a rebellious child who is not only angry, but grieving. Our sin grieves God.

How do you feel when you see people sinning? Are you angry? Grieving?

How do you feel about your own sin knowing how God feels about evil?
