PARENT BIBLE STUDY

Read: Acts 27

This chapter of Paul’s life reads like an epic adventure tale: battered at sea in a violent storm for 14 days; then shipwrecked! Yet everyone on board was unharmed. Paul heard from God in the midst of the storm and reassured everyone that they would not die.

Once the pilot stepped back on land again he may have felt overwhelmed by the regret of his decision to set sail in poor weather. The two weeks in a storm, the loss of cargo, and more could have been avoided. Paul warned the sailors before they left that the voyage would be disastrous.

Do you ever ignore good advice—even godly advice? Do you ever sail right into a storm, even though you know it will be disastrous? Even then, in the middle of a storm that you could have avoided, God is near. God answered Paul’s prayers and saved the lives of everyone on the ship.

Even when we make our own storms, God still cares for us and rescues us when we call on him. God’s love is bigger than our mistakes. We can ask him to rescue us no matter how our storm started.

Can you recall a time in your life where you sailed right into the storm against the wisdom and good advice of others? What happened? How did you experience God’s rescue even out of that storm?
