GROUP QUESTIONS

// Bible References

Luke 15 Luke 19:10, John 3:16, Romans 5:6-8

// Community Question

What do you think of the following quote? “Easter celebrates and memorializes the greatest day in history, that sets Jesus apart from any other person of all time in any religion or faith system.”

// Discussion Questions

  1. Read Luke 19:10, John 3:16, Romans 5:6-8. According to these verses, why did God send His Son to die, be buried, and be resurrected for our sins?

  2. Read Luke 15:1-10 This passage illustrates two reasons why things (people) get lost. 1) Sheep get lost and stay lost when something happens in life, and they don’t have a good shepherd to rescue them. 2) Coins get lost when someone who was supposed to take care of it dropped it, forgot about it, or found something “better”. Can we relate to feeling lost because of impossible/painful life circumstances or relationships? How?

  3. Read Luke 15:11-13 This passage illustrates a third reason why something is lost…reckless living. Reckless in this passage means “to be utterly and shamelessly immoral, completely and extravagantly broken down”. The son chose to take his father’s money and live a reckless life, not caring if it hurt anyone or anything. Has anyone been this person, or had someone like this in your life? How did it change your relationship(s)?

  4. Read Luke 15:14-19 These verses illustrate that the son realized something had to change. What was the son’s plan and what treatment from his father did he think he deserved?

  5. Read Luke 15: 20-24 When did the father see his son? What did the father feel and do when his son was a long way off? If a lost person changes their mind and wants to come back home, can they?”

// Challenge: What if today you realized something had to change? What if you remembered that your Heavenly father has been searching for you, wants to be in your life, save you, and welcome you back home into his family? Will you decide to follow him today? (Optional: Share your story with the group of when you decided to follow Christ.)
