PARENT BIBLE STUDY

Read: 2 Samuel 7:1-17

Jesus is often referred to in the Bible as the Son of David, and this is more than just a reference to his genealogy. God made a promise to David in 2 Samuel 7 that his kingdom would last forever. And Isaiah 9:7 says, “Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore.” King David’s temporary kingdom made way for the forever kingdom God would establish through Jesus. So, when people called Jesus the Son of David, and when Jesus referred to himself as Son of David, it was an affirmation of God’s promise fulfilled.

David wanted to build a temple to show God’s glory, but God had a much better temple in mind: Jesus, through which God’s glory would be revealed to all people. Jesus is the King of all Kings, and his life, death, and resurrection secured all of us a place in his everlasting kingdom.

What does it mean to you that God’s kingdom will never end and that, through faith in Jesus, you are a part of that kingdom?
