What is the first thing you think of when you hear Spiritual Warfare?

// Discussion Questions

  1. Jim explained that the writers of the Bible believed in a supernatural world with lesser deities, spirits, angels, and demons. Why is it significant for us to grasp the cultural context in which the Bible was written? How does this understanding enhance our comprehension of passages about the spiritual realm?
  2. Read 1 Corinthians 5:1 Jim mentioned that Corinthian Christians combined their beliefs with practices contradicting Jesus's teachings. How can we as Christians ensure that our beliefs and practices do not contradict the teachings of Jesus? Are there any areas or practices in your life that may conflict with the teachings of Jesus, and what steps can you take to address them?
  3. Read 1 Corinthians 2:8. This passage mentions that 'the rulers of this age... crucified the Lord of glory.' Who do you believe these rulers are? (Hint: It's neither the Jews nor the Romans.) How does this verse relate to the concept of spiritual battle? Understanding this verse, how might it alter your perspective on the spiritual battle and the forces influencing the world?"
  4. Read Ephesians 6:13-18. Paul states the ability to stand firm and defeat spiritual attacks we must
    know the word of God, have faith, and practice righteousness. What are some practical steps we can take in our lives to better know the Bible, increase our Faith, and practice Righteousness?
  5. Read 2 Corinthians 10:3-6. These verses illustrate another aspect of spiritual warfare that relates to the opinions and arguments claiming to be true that are disobedient to Christ. Can you identify any opinions or arguments you have heard in your own life where this might be true? What can you do to address them?

// Challenge: Identify an area or relationship in your life that you suspect might be under spiritual attack. For this week, make a commitment to pray for it daily. Define what positive changes or outcomes you hope to see in this area or relationship because of your prayers and share these with your group.
