BE FREE
Don't Go Back | BE FREE | Week 2
October 12, 2025 | By Jim Burgen
Why do we keep going back to the same chains Jesus already broke? This message is a gut check for anyone who’s ever tasted freedom in Christ but still finds themselves living like they’re not. Jim unpacks Galatians 5:1 and challenges us to stop rebuilding the same prison Jesus tore down. Be Free isn’t just a slogan—it’s a mission, a strategy, and a spiritual war cry for anyone who’s done being a slave to lies, sin, and fear. It’s time to drop the chains, plant your feet, and live like you’ve actually been set free. Jesus didn’t die just to forgive you; He died to free you. And free people don’t go back. This is our moment to get honest about the chains we keep picking back up and finally put them down. This isn't about being perfect—it's about standing firm in truth and grace, knowing we’re just former slaves showing others where to find freedom. Before revival happens out there, it has to happen in us.

Message Discussion Questions
- Paul reminds believers that living a life of freedom is not passive when he warns us to “not submit again” to a yoke of slavery. What are some ways you might be voluntarily returning to old behaviors that Christ has already set you free from?
- The sermon emphasizes that we must address our own issues (logs) before attempting to help others with their issues (specks). What 'logs' in your own life might be preventing you from effectively helping others find freedom in Christ?
- Jim discusses how Jesus was full of both grace and truth, and we must maintain both to effectively share freedom with others. In your personal interactions, do you tend to lean more heavily on truth or grace? How might you better balance these two aspects?
- GOING DEEPER: Read 2 Chronicles 7:14, 21-22. Why does Jim emphasize that repentance must begin in the house of God before we can effectively reach others? What areas of your spiritual life might need renewal before you can be used to free others?
// Challenge: What would it look like this week to say no to that yoke of slavery and stand firm in freedom? Take one intentional step; maybe it’s confessing a struggle to a trusted friend, deleting something that keeps pulling you back, or starting a new rhythm of prayer or scripture to strengthen your walk with Jesus. Don’t just think about it…do it.
