Growth with a Mission: Why Flatirons Is Moving Forward | Be Free | Week 6
November 9, 2025 | By Jim Burgen
This isn’t about getting bigger. It’s about rescuing the broken.
Because growth isn’t about crowds. It’s about calling. Flatirons is expanding—not to get bigger—but to get bolder in the fight for people’s lives. There are still addicts waiting to be set free, students about to give up, marriages on the edge, and survivors of trafficking who don’t even know help is on the way. We’re building outposts of freedom for them.
For the ones who aren’t here yet. And for the ones who don’t believe God still shows up. This isn't expansion for comfort. It’s movement toward mission. We’re asking God to use every building, every dollar, every sacrifice as a weapon of rescue. Because when you’ve seen what Jesus can do, you can’t stay put. This is the church going first. Giving first. Trusting first. So that when the lost start showing up, we’re already on the front lines, ready to meet them.

// Discussion Questions
- How does the concept that 'everything belongs to God' challenge our typical views about ownership and giving? What would change in your life if you truly lived with the perspective that everything you have belongs to God?
- Read 1 Chronicles 29:3. Looking at King David's example when he gave from his personal treasure, what does it mean to give 'willingly' and with a 'whole heart' to God's work? In what areas of your life might God be asking you to move from partial commitment to whole-hearted dedication?
- The sermon talks about moving from being 'spectator fans of Jesus' to joining His mission. What practical differences exist between being a spectator and being actively engaged in God's mission? What is holding you back from moving from the 'bleachers' into active engagement in God's mission?
- Jim describes this moment as a significant crossroads for the church. Not just significant for those present, but for future people who will be impacted by the decisions made today - including addicts, trafficking victims, and broken families. What crossroads moment are you facing in your own spiritual journey, and how might your decision impact others beyond yourself?
// Challenge: If you participated in the two-year commitment, please share what motivated you to commit, if you are hesitant to commit; share with your group your hesitations and pray for clarity on next steps.
