Group Questions
1. “The 10 commandments are not conditional requirements FOR God’s love. The 10 commandments are confirmation OF God’s love.” Many people struggle with this concept. Why is it so hard for us to accept?
2. Read Psalm 19:7-11. List all the words that describe the laws, precepts, commandments, etc. of God. (Example: the law of the Lord is Perfect). Commandments/laws seem like a burdensome chore. What is the perspective we need to have so that these descriptions to seem like the Psalmist stated and God intended them to be?
3. What did you think of the “Jim’s rules/Jim’s dad’s rules/Billy Graham rules? His were extremely helpful for everyone, especially for a pastor. In your line of work, how might these be expanded so that you keep your integrity at work. (Example: I’ll avoid water-cooler talk/gossip.)
4. We are told to submit to those in authority over us if the requests are not outside of the path God wants us to follow. Are you being told to do anything at work or otherwise where what you are being told to do is bumping up against how God wants us to live? How did you, or how are you handling that?
5. As Jim stated, Peter says we should strive to be the best citizens. We’ve discussed letting your quiet integrity protect you. Pastor Jim listed a host of people who tapped into their courage and stood up for what was right. How do we discern when silence is golden versus when it is just plain “yellow”? When should we speak up?
