Same Demons. Different Day.
How to Know When You’re Under Spiritual Attack
September 27, 2026 | By Jim Burgen
There's more going on beneath what you're experiencing. It's time to pull back the curtain and learn how to fight the battle that actually needs to be fought.
This message kicks off Same Demons, Different Day, a series on spiritual warfare and learning to discern between the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error. You'll hear why identifying the schemes of the devil changes how you fight, plus details on the six-week Prayer Challenge starting Monday (text PRAYER to 80857) and the Unseen Realm Conference Oct 9-10 at Flatirons West Campus.
Whether you're in a season of chaos, temptation, or spiritual exhaustion, this one is for you. Watch this message and get equipped to stand strong when the day comes.
In this message you'll discover:
— Why your struggle isn't just flesh and blood and what's really happening underneath
— Why trying to fight in your own strength won't work and what it looks like to stand equipped
— How to test what you're hearing and know if it's truth or error
— Why Jesus' unchanging power and authority is your source of victory and protection

// Bible References: Ephesians 6:10-13, 1 John 4:1-6, Matthew 26:41, Ephesians 6:18-20, Colossians 1:15-17, Hebrews 13:8, Philippians 2:6-1, Romans 10:13
// Community Question: Are there any Bible verses you've leaned on heavily without fully understanding their context? How might reading them in context change how you apply them to your life?
// Discussion Questions
- Jim opens the sermon by saying the demonic realm doesn't want us to understand spiritual warfare because awareness makes us better fighters. Why do you think knowledge of the real enemy matters so much in a spiritual battle? Is there an area of your life where you've been fighting the wrong battle, blaming people or circumstances, when the real struggle might be spiritual? What would it look like to approach that situation differently?
- Jim points out that many Christians quote '...he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world' (1 John 4:4) without knowing the full context, which begins with a warning to 'test the spirits.' Why is context so important when we use Scripture, and what happens when we treat Bible verses like magic formulas?
- When has a Spiritual truth made you uncomfortable or even defensive? Looking back, what did that discomfort reveal about something in your life that needed to change?
- Jim ends the sermon by walking through moments in the Old Testament where Jesus appeared: to Abraham, Moses, Joshua, and others, reminding us that Jesus is 'the same yesterday and today and forever' (Hebrews 13:8). Why is it important to remember who Jesus has always been as we face spiritual battles today?
// Challenge: Jim challenges us to commit to six weeks of prayer alongside this series, drawing from Ephesians 6:18: “praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.” After describing the armor of God, Paul immediately points us to prayer, reminding us that we were never meant to face spiritual battles in our own strength. As you think about your prayer life right now, where could you be more intentional about inviting God into the challenges you’re facing? Choose one practical way you will commit to prayer this week and ask God to help you rely on His strength instead of your own.
