Book Of John
John 7 | Week 7 | Book of John

What if the biggest problem you’re begging God to fix… is actually you? This message walks through John 6 and one of Jesus’ most famous miracles with a fresh lens. Thousands are hungry, the disciples feel overwhelmed, and Jesus asks a question that exposes how we think about trust, control, and provision. This isn’t just about bread and fish. It’s about why we keep waiting on God while holding tight to the very thing He’s asking us to release. Jesus isn’t short on power. The real issue is whether what He gives can move through us or stops with us. Transformation happens when we stop asking God to do more and start trusting Him with what we already have. When the disciples handed over what felt too small, Jesus multiplied it and everyone was fed. Even the disciples ended up with more than they started with. The miracle didn’t begin with abundance. It began with surrender. The same invitation stands today. Trust Him. Hand it over. Watch what He does next.

// Discussion Questions
- In John we learn that 'not even his brothers believed in him.' How can believers stay strong in their faith when facing opposition or lack of support from those closest to them? Have you ever experienced resistance to your faith from close friends or family members? How did you handle it?
- The Israelites said they would rather return to slavery in Egypt than die of thirst in the desert. How do we sometimes prefer our “familiar” struggles over trusting God's path forward? What 'Egypt' (comfortable but spiritually limiting situation) might God be asking you to leave behind to follow Him into something better?
- The Feast of Booths was about remembering God's provision in the past while anticipating future salvation. How does this dual focus of looking back and looking forward apply to our Christian faith today? What past experiences of God's faithfulness help you trust Him for your future needs?
- Going Deeper: Read John 7:37-38. What is the significance of Jesus choosing the exact moment when the priest was pouring water during the Feast of Booths to make His declaration about living water? How has Jesus revealed Himself to you in particularly meaningful or perfectly timed ways in your life?
// Challenge: Jim challenged everyone to “come and partake” of the living water that Jesus offers for either spiritual birth or to become more like Him. If you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Saviour, what is standing in your way? If you have accepted Jesus as your Saviour, what is an area of your life that needs to be revived with the living water of Jesus? Take a moment to share your response in your group, then pray for each person to have the strength and faith to take whatever step Jesus is calling them to.
