Time Well Spent - Week 3

11/20/22 | By Jim Burgen

Do you ever just wish you could change the past? We spend so much time thinking about how we wish things could be different, or wish that you could have changed the outcome of a decision you made? Take a second to think about what you're spending your life on and join us as we keep tearing through the book of 1 Peter. Join us and follow along with Jim as he unpacks the past, the present, and the future of the coming of Jesus and how it all is worth paying attention to.

// Community Question

Read 1 Peter 4:7. In this verse Peter says the end is at hand. What is your initial reaction to that statement? Is it disbelief, fear, or excitement? Something else? Share with the group and elaborate on your answer.

// Discussion Questions

  1. Read 2 Peter 3:3-7 Peter says in these verses that one reason people don’t want to admit that Jesus will return is because it infers accountability for how they have lived their lives. Does that resonate as true in you or the people you know? Why or why not?
  2. Read 2 Peter 3: 8,9. According to God’s word one of, (if not the only reason) Jesus hasn’t returned is because He is patiently waiting for more people to call Him Lord and Savior.  What does this say about the nature of God? How might this be encouraging?
  3. Read 1 Peter 4:7,8 In this passage to love someone so that it covers a multitude of sins means that despite another believer’s sin, we fellow Christians won’t abandon them. Would loving like this be hard to do? Why or why not? Share some examples of when you have seen this love demonstrated, when you have experienced this type of love, or when you have demonstrated that kind of love.
  4. Read 1 Peter 4:9,10 Look up the definition of steward. What does it mean to be a steward of the gifts that God has given us? How might this change the way we use our gifts?
  5. If our actions reveal our faith, and what we do with our time, talents, and money reveal what we truly believe about Jesus, what are our actions saying?

// Challenge:  What are we spending our time and money on? What’s my legacy or what do I want to be remembered for? Do we want our legacy to be different than it is now? In what ways? What is something we can do this week to begin…or add to…a legacy we would be proud of?
