Is This Heaven?

What is Heaven Really Like?

June 15, 2025 | By Jesse DeYoung

What if Heaven is better than you ever imagined—so good you don’t even have the words? This week, we explore what the Bible actually says about heaven, not just myths or cartoons, but a place of healing, wholeness, and unimaginable joy. From the scars we carry to the deepest longings we chase, Jesus doesn’t just promise to make things new; He promises to make them better. Jim walks us through our longing for real fulfillment and why the best moments in life are just a shadow of what’s to come. Heaven isn’t a downgrade from Earth; it’s the full upgrade. Think beauty, intimacy, joy, and peace without limits. You’ll be healed. You’ll be whole. You’ll be fully known and loved by the One who made you. Every scar that tells a story of faithfulness won’t be erased—they’ll shine with glory.

// Community Question: If you could do or see one thing in heaven (something that brings you joy, fills you with wonder, or just makes you smile), what would it be?

// Discussion Questions:

  1. Romans 8 talks about creation longing to be set free from decay. How does that picture of a healed and restored world shift the way you think about pain, suffering, or even natural disasters we see today?
  2. When you think about heaven, healing often comes to mind. But it’s not just physical, there’s emotional and spiritual healing too. What areas of your life do you hope God continues to heal, even now? How can we support each other in that journey?
  3. Sometimes a beautiful sunset, a moment of peace, or even deep heartache can stir up this feeling that we were made for more. Have you ever had a moment where something here on earth made you long for something deeper, maybe even heaven? What was that like?
  4. Going Deeper: Read Matthew 19:28-29. Jesus promises that our sacrifices for Him aren’t forgotten. Have you ever given something up (comfort, reputation, time, etc.) for your faith? How does this promise encourage you to keep going, even when it’s hard?

// Challenge: Life can throw a lot at us. But when we lift our eyes toward heaven, it can reframe our perspective. What’s one area in your life right now where you could use a little more of that heavenly perspective? How can we as a group walk with you and remind each other of what’s ahead?
