Love One Another

What if the most important thing Jesus ever said was also the simplest—and hardest—to live out?
This week, Jim drops the shortest sermon of his career with a message that hits deep: Love one another, better than you are right now. Inspired by a drive to work and a country song, this Memorial Day weekend teaching cuts through the noise and reminds us what matters most. With summer plans ramping up, Jim challenges us to shift from passive love to intentional action—because someone in your life needs to know they’re loved and worth loving.
Jesus didn’t ask us to love others based on our feelings—He commanded us to love as He has loved us. That means showing up, speaking truth, and doing the things that say “you matter” when words fall short. Whether it’s your spouse, your kid, your friend, or your staff, this summer is your chance to rewrite the story of how you love. Call it “The Summer of Love,” and let it start today—with just one act of love that expects nothing in return.

// Discussion Questions
- Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love God, and the second is like it: to love others. Why do you think Jesus tied these two commands together so tightly? What does that tell us about how we should express our faith?
- Jim said, "Someone in your life needs to be reassured that you love them.” Who comes to mind for you, and what might it look like to intentionally love them this week, not with words, but with action?
- Going Deeper: Jesus said, “Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” (John 13:34) That raises a powerful question: How has Jesus loved me? Take a minute to reflect on that. What comes to mind when you think about how Jesus has shown you love…through grace, forgiveness, sacrifice, or presence? As a group, talk about how understanding Jesus’ love for you could reshape the way you show love to others, especially the difficult or distant people in your life. What would change if we loved like that, at home, work, or in this group?
// Challenge: As a group, how can we live out this “Summer of Love” together? Is there a need in our church, community, or someone in our circle we could serve as a team? Let’s plan to do something together that shows the love of Jesus in a real, tangible way.
